Barristas Coffee, Inc. (OTCMKTS:BCCI) Keeps Positive Momentum
Barristas Coffee, Inc. (OTCMKTS:BCCI) seems to have taken off not merely in reaction to the news, but with a few days of positive momentum. The ticker ended the week on a high note, growing a net 50% on Friday, to $0.137 on buying volumes that add a bit each day, reaching $3.58 million.
But BCCI has had such spikes in the past, as from time to time the company gathers all eyes on itself, even with promises of a NASDAQ listing. That goal is still pending, but the spike in 2014 recalls the one a year ago, when BCCI was again a newly discovered treasure. Unfortunately, BCCI usually deflates after one of those amazingly robust periods of price gains. Now, the NASDAQ process is still underway, and the promise is that the uplisting would indeed happen later in the year. There is even a reserved ticker, BAPI- but there is also the warning that BCCI has been promising this upgrade regularly, without results.
The verdict that BCCI is underpriced and unnoticed is the clear indication that the business is chugging along, and even generating profits. The bottom line for 2013 reveals:
- cash: $48 thousand
- current assets: $100 thousand
- total assets: $7.5 million
- total current liabilities: $578 thousand
- revenues: $463 thousand
- net profit: $75 thousand
Time will tell if BCCI follows the success of Seattle superstar, Starbucks, but for now the company seems to be enjoying the benefits of its business model, using attractive “barristas” to raise the appeal of its locations and beverages.
Moreover, the “Bloomberg” mention seems to be found only in the specially crafted PR of BCCI, and not on the Bloomberg newswire website, or from another independent location. In the end, this looks like a concerted promotional effort. And while the company has several brightly colored and recognizable small locations, there are enough warning signs to be a warning against too much trust.
Another coffee chain that we’ve been tracking for a while is Jammin’ Java Corp. (OTCMKTS:JAMN), which has been struggling to gain positions for a while. JAMN was heavily promoted, but then continued with trading as usual, and now is moving erratically, currently hovering around the 35-cent level. JAMN relies also on interesting branding and craft coffee, slowly emerging from the start-up period and into a more mature business.
As for a franchise disaster, there is the very heavily promoted GrillIT, Inc. (OTCMKTS:GRLT), which for a while managed to hover above $1.20, but crashed since the beginning of the year, currently attempting a rebounce from the 20-cent levels.
If you like BCCI for its longer-term potential, keep in mind that it has shown long periods with a depressed stock price. Avoid trusting any company too much, especially if the stocks seems to move on publicity.
