Vuzix, Corp. (OTCBB:VUZI) Spikes on Record Buying
Vuzix, Corp. (OTCBB:VUZI) is an on-and-off sensation, switching to activity as financial news approach, and on Monday surprisingly jumping on extremely high volumes, gaining nearly 19%to $2.26 on dollar volumes above $1.17 million.
VUZI has been on a rollercoaster ride of low trading volumes, rarely helped by promotions, moving between $5 and $1.50 in a period of about a year. But the record-high buying volumes come with some skeptical opinions pointing toward possible insider information.
VUZI competes in the augmented reality market, with projects that might compete with the promised and upcoming Google Glass. To continue its operations, VUZI is equipped with:
- cash: $532 thousand
- total current assets: $1.7 million
- total current liabilities: $6.59 million
- total liabilities: $1.1 million
- total sales: $739 thousand
- net loss:$936 thousand
To the company’s credit, there is no name-dropping and comparison with Google’s augmented reality product. And while virtual reality glasses are a somehow developed idea, VUZI has actually realized and improved some products. And there was talk of uplisting to NASDAQ. Still, it’s early to say if VUZI could achieve stable enough volumes and make a trend, though at $2.26 the price is quite inaccessible.
The company is capped at a bit more than $7 million, with only about 9 million shares outstanding, giving a leeway for further issues and cash generation without sinking into debt. A new promotion is not impossible, and may be taken up to improve the record of pumpers. Still, VUZI does not fit the criteria for a one-off wonder.
Recently, the interface between man and the digital medium lifted up the interest in ImageWare Systems, Inc. (OTCMKTS:IWSY), a producer of biometrics solutions. Even without a promotion, IWSY is enjoying robust buying that picked up again in the past two trading days, leading the ticker to $2.44.
In a loosely joined category, we could add Liquidmetal Technologies, Inc. (OTCMKTS:LQMT), the producer of amorphous alloys that also seeks demand for its products in the technological sector. Sudden promotion lifted the ticker higher, but since then it sank again, moving around 12 cents.
It’s a wait and see situation for VUZI, and activity is still unpredictable. Still, if you like the company for the longer-term potential, it is best to invest affordably, and keep in mind the wild swings in price that VUZI is capable of.
